....are you running, on what engine.....and why?

Interested to know what timing people are running, on what engine set ups...and why...(ie - a mate told them to, manufacturers setting, dyno tested, road tested etc etc)........

Generally 19 BTDC on all my scoots- simply because I tend to err on the side of caution.

Not totally convinced as to the "official" reasons ( crap modern petrol etc) for doing this.

Bikes idle and run nicely, but I've always got a hankering to advance the timing a tad

Chris

P.S. All are 6v points as well.............

I think my TS1 is at 18 degrees maybe even 17 but can't remember exactly :?
I probably got the setting from reading something in Scootering a while back. It has been set at that for a good few years running unleaded.

Running RB at 19 degrees, when built kept advancing ignition until the engine pinked. Then backed of a tad. strobed and lines up at 19 degree mark. All test runs where done up a hill to get the engine to labour.

TS 1 running at 16 degrees, center plug, Compression ratio at 12.2-1

TS 1 running at 19 degrees, Off set squish, Compression ratio at 9.1-1

Rapido 225 Classic at 18 degrees, Off set squish, Compression ratio at 8.9-1

all timings set using dead stop method, for TDC. Compression ratio's (Head volumes) measured using a burette (very accurate).

deanspeed 190 with a varitronic, running at 22. i can't remember why! but my thinking is that this is ok because of the varitronic.

Cool, thanks.

And what prompted those particular choices of timing degrees?
