hi , this is the first time i have bought a scoot like this, normaly i buy a scoot and restore it to its former glory, but this ones a bit different, it is a 1962 early series 3 tv175, frame number checks out ok, it is registered as a 125cc, on current v5 with original reg number, but i have started to strip it for sandblasting, it has a 200cc engine,(innocenti genuine, ( ie barrel has right marking and the different size inlet stud spacing, also the head has 200 on it, the piston is 66.4m and the casings are s2 engine, which is likely being a early s3, but , here it comes the engine number has been filed away, (so it could be riden on L plates) is my guess, now do i fully restore as it is , or return it back to a straight tv175 and register the 175 engine and sell the 200cc engine ,or sell it when done as a tv175 s3 with a 200cc engine and registered as a 125cc, ? what do you guys think, what will fetch the best money and sell the best, thanks

If this is a business venture then you are probably going to get the best return from restoring it to as standard a TV175 as you can possibly allow, offsetting the cost by selling the parts you don't need.
Standard restos kinda have an agreed value / price, any changes thereafter are personnal taste and so narrow down your customers. They also provide a blank canvas and allow any new owner to customise / tinker and finally break :) :)

If the engine no starts with TV2 512*** then it is a TV200 engine, Series 2 TV175's had 175TV2 100*** later 200*** prefix on frame and engine, TV series 3 had 175TV3 on frame and engine, if that's any use........................

Frame number dictates model and engine capacity and should be recorded on the V5C so altering the engine number wouldn't necessarily alter the 'L' plate entitlement unless the frame number has been also altered (Ringed)

Addtitonally, without alot of work a 200cc barrel would not normally fit a 175 set of casings (barrel stud widths are different) as they are the same for 125 and 150 engines as well.

Perhaps you should examine more closely the frame and engine that you have bought to determine exactly what it is. Also remember that series 2 & 3 frames are different. You may have a mix of the two models..........................

Whether people like it or not a scooter that is above 125cc but still registered as a 125cc is going to fetch more money as it will open itself upto the L plate brigade.

Whether it is the right thing to do or not is another question, seem to remember somebody saying they offer less money when they deem it necessary to have to re-register a scooters engine size, but that's just rediculous.

I must admit that my frame is deemed a 125 frame (LCGB letter) and is thus registered, but it has a SIL 200cc engine in it and although I've tried to correct this with the DVLA (it is insured as a 200 though taxed as a 125), they won't have any of it. Just ignore any engine cc corrections to the V5C.................

We have also tried to alter the CC as on V5C document as we had a V100 that had been registered as a 50 at some point in it's life.

It's still registered as a 50 and now has a PK125 engine going into it.
