The type of standard air box and air scoop and the type of seat fitted can and will effect the air intake, as the fitting bracket for the seat sits just infront of the air scoop, some seat brackets are free flowing and dont restrict the air flow as on some early TV175 series 2's where as replacement seats like the old ancelotti can be very restrictive and can change the jetting considerably, MB has in the past done alot of engine set ups using the 25 dellorto give him a ring if you get no joy here, but make sure he knows what its breathing through before you ask for any advice as the wrong air box or scoop could make a massive difference.

shaun,my own af stage 4 run a 22mmcarb reamed out(cant remember the size) bigger that std and ran the gp air cleaner with a filter(yes it is a long time ago).
the first af stage 4 i ever rode belonged to ralph and this was the start of his 'attention to detail' which he still retains ,this also had the same carb set up and a clubman exhaust,we did try twin tail pipes although i think this sounded nice the local pc did not like mine and would wait for me coming home at night he claimed he could here me over 3 mile away i changed it for a new clubman and the perfomance improved (think old one was coked up).

i think i understand the difference here joe..............you must be a bit older than me i presume............
when i refer to old school..............i,m thinking back to early 80,s................. :D
when an AF stage 4 was typically ,and recomended by them,a stage 4 tuned barrel,skimmed head,30mm carb.....run open,and a fresco....................... :D

but having said that.........even the first one that i can remember ,had a 30mm amal mk 1 carb on.........with hole in panel............... :?

sean,i often wonder what people call stage 1-2-3-4 etc, i personally do not call a stage of tune because there are so many variant so to me it is mild or wild, been car racing and rallying stage 1 can be a cam change or better carb ultimate race is all out what is available at the time,
yes i can go back to 40 years of playing with lambretta's the technology you have today at your fingertips is far greater than the mid seventies when i was hard at it!
keep up the good work.

'Old school',as in iron barrel, stage 4 tune (by Taffspeed if memory serves).Ive had this knocking about since the early 80's,then run with an original Ancillotti exhaust system (long deceased),and a 22mm Dellorto reamed out to nearly 26mm,breathing through the airbox,at first with a filter, but later upjetted and without.Ive long forgotten what gearing i had, probably a GP 150 box.Ive recently re-vamped the barrel kit,and have aquired a 25mm Dellorto, and a 42mm clubman,so am looking for possible jetting/gearing starting points as i dont have as much time on my hands as i did back in the day. ;)

I once asked the Question what is a sage 4 at a little shop in watford called Arthur Francis I had gone down on the train to pick up a new scooter GP200 stage 4.
The story I was given was that The four stages were,
1 barrel tuned
2 High comp head
3 Perfofmance exhaust
4 Big Carb
The four stages to getting better performance.

Dave Webster added to this when I asked him what constitutes a stage 5 ( as he use to advertise stage 5, 6 & 7) he told me the use of a Japanese piston made it stage 5, extra poting to the transferes made it stage 6 and a reed block added made it stage 7.
