Hi all,

I've got a gp200 (indian pretty well much standard). I've done 2500miles on it now and believe the crank might need replacing. At the same time I'm thinking of changing the piston. Can anyone advise what would be the best piston to use. Advice on the crank would also be apreciated.

Thanks.

Keep the crank webs and fit a new rod and bearing and i used a mahle 2 ring piston in my tuned indian stage 4 , never gave any problems. :)

why do you suspect the crank has gone and why do you need a new piston..........
if your going to change them you might want to think about building futere reliability as you go for another £40 or so you could change the top end bearings and seals using a drive side bearing with an oil seal fitted inside it , also it would be a good time to check the stator plate for dry joints ,while the top end is off you might want to match the barrel to the casing and also the inlet and outlet ports to the barrel this will give a little more power but make it smoother as well , the chain will prob need adjusting and check the rock in the rear sprocket as well as the gearbox end plate shim these are known problem on SOME engines

Thanks for the replies.

I fear the crank is coming to the end of its life because I'm starting to get a slight knocking sound from it, could be the bearings but 2500 + on an indian crank could be a good time to change it.

I am thinking of changing the piston/rings mainly because I don't want to touch the engine again for another 3000+ miles after this plus it is an indian engine and I don't know what is in there at the moment.

I will change all the top end bearings and seals at the same time and match all the ports up and change clutch plates while I'm at it.

There are so many choices around these days its a bit daunting.
