Li 125 Special - chain problem?

Evening All,
recently bought a 1967 Li125 Special rebuild and from day one chain has been real noisy when not in gear - sounds like chain is rattling around . When engaged in gear the noise stops & sounds much happier.
Do i need a new chain or can it be altered easily by someone in-the-know?
Cheers
B.V.

There's an adjuster inside the casing to take up excess play but if the adjuster is on the max adjustment and the chain's still slack then you'll probably need a new chain.

Think you've got the right advice off corrado... and its only two 10mm bolts that need slackening then re-tightening...

If the rattle doesn't go when you have done this, then get someone to look at the clutch assembly and bearings... Its not a big job and usually only a couple of needle roller bearings need replacing, but sometimes a rattle that disappears when the clutch is engaged and the engine is put into gear has a little clutch wear on the assembly somewhere... with the right tools it would take no more than two hours to disassemble and reassemble if needed...
