side panel filling

when filling in gp panel grill recesses is it best to weld a plate in first before filling over? thanks

Welding might be the most professional way but would need a fair degree of skill to avoid warping the panel. Personally I'd remove the paint then fill the recess with Isopon P40 fibre glass repair paste to just below the surface and then scim with filler. Rub down with 80 grip production paper and then give it 2 or 3 coats of high build 2k primmer. If you just use filler there is a chance it will 'sink' and or crack.

thanks for that sound advice red, think i might pass on that one if you dont mind and try the other suggestions

I'd flog the panels you have and buy fibreglass ones that don't have the cut out to start with.
