I have recently rebuilt my gearbox series 3 GP,

I followed sticky's book for assistance.

The confusion lies in the order the gears are placed, the book says 4th flat side down with boss side up toward endplate. And the 3rd & 2nd boss side up until 1st.

Other sources say fourth flat side down boss side up then , 3rd boss side down towards the hub then same again with 2nd?

Which one is correct ?

Thanks, Alex

Sticky's bock clearly states 'Boss up, Boss down, Boss down and Boss down' and that's way I have always done it.

Take the layshaft and fit the 4 loose gears.

fit 4th gear, this fits with the raised boss facing up towards the end plate

fit 3rd gear, the raised boss fits towards the rear hub

fit 2nd gear, the raised boss fits towards the rear hub

fit 1st gear the kickstart teeth faces the end plate
As my Dad used to say "Each to their own lad"

Fit the forth gear so that the widest face is towards the endplate, then fit each gear with ONE oil groove between the each gear.
