Front dampers

I have noticed many Lambretta riders are now using the modern BGM/Targa line style of front suspension dampers.
Two questions:
Do they work on wheel drop only as Innocenti intended?
Bearing in mind the cost of them. Does anyone think they are worth paying for/better than, the more standard Escort type?

They might be better. I wouldn't know. But I use Escorts and to be honest they are fine. So, I'm not sure what I would gain other than aesthetic appeal. All I can say is if that floats your boat then spend the money.

I thought that the very early versions were "double acting" rather than only one way as Andy mentions above. Personally I prefer "double action" ones if I can get them.

I've been Lucky enough to weld the top brackets and convert the links for dampers on alot of scooters and the owners have supplied the dampers they range from 20 quid stainless ones which I wouldn't recommend to the 200 plus ones and I've fitied there dampers to my scooter to try them out .
I've never noticed a massive amount of difference and never had a"night and day"experience,I'm sure on a super smooth race track there would be difference but with our ever worsening roads it's gonna be hard to notice
I now run outboard shocks with no inners and again the difference isn't massive compared to a well set up standard one ,I guess if your original dampers are totally trashed your 200 quid ones are going to feel amazing I often wonder what "placebo" effect spending £200 has on a side note I spent £860 on a pensk shock for my then R1 and never noticed any difference on the road I also nearly bought showa gold forks at £2000

£18 pair for slim escorts for me. Happy we them for original looking. If covered with a pair of gaitors you won't know if you had £100 plus set on.

Some of the views here reflect my own and I have settled on Scootopia slim (standard) shocks. Thanks for all comments.

They are very good. The only thing you might have to watch out for is that you might struggle to fit them on some damper studs. They will fit right on to Scootopia's own studs, but others can be very tight.

The springs make the real difference. The dampers don't seem to do much on Lambretta's, save your money and get some cheap SIL or Scootopia ones.

I've got dampers on my series 3,but not on my series 2,both scooters have Scootopia progressive fork springs and too be honest I cant tell the difference in handling.

I restored my series 2 16 years ago and still use it more than any other. I've had scooters with and without dampers since. I cant really tell, never mind spending 200 quid on something.

My mate had borrowed a set of those fancy ones to try and said they made front feel harder, is that always a good thing? Its more likely to slide out the front in the wet if the front suspension is hard.
