The spider doesn't want to seat down and is about 4mm off the shim on the endplate, suggestions????

I've tried tightening up the nut but it's only going on by a few threads but it wont go any further than that.

What was done prior to re-assembly?

take the clutch housing off, make sure the spider goes all the way onto the splines(it may need a tap)if it dosnt thats your problem, either a burr, loctite,or a piece of swarf could be stopping this,if its ok......take it off and make sure the nut goes on the xmas tree ok,ie eliminate any thread damage.....thirdly make sure the inner spider sits in the clutch housing ok(with the bronze bush/bearing in place)before assembly.....eliminating any tightness on the bearing
if all thats ok there shudnt be any reason it shouldnt assemble
