which oil or substance is best to use on a cast iron barrel

I used brake fluid,I had a shed load given to me,so not expensive!,I would have thought any thin lube would be OK.

I would use paraffin or diesel oil rather than an oil.

Oh! before I forget whats the best for cleaning the barrel out after Ta

Paraffin to take the heavy off and then brake cleaner followed by an air blast.
