Need to replace the layshaft bearing track on the endplate. What's the best way to get it out? Heat and drift it out? Or does it need to be done by someone with a press? Thanks

It usually won't be that tight that it needs pressed out.
You should be able to knock it out wth a suitably sized socket.

This is the way to go. Use two sockets; one to push the bearing out, and one (larger) socket to push the race into. Gently does it.

Cheers fellas, old one out and new one in. A bit of heat and a couple of sockets as suggested, did the trick
I was very surprised at the difference a new track makes, the old one wasn't in that long either (off eBay though

this time I got a new bearing and track from Andy Francis and they fit nice and snug together, quality

Probably been your problem, the old eBay one might not have been properly hardened.

I hope so, will know later when I get it back together. What is the best way to have the rear wheel whilst I shim the gearbox? On the little stand or not? I believe it makes a big difference?
