Fitted a new chrome ring to my S3 LI125 during a rebuild went to fit the headset and when the clamp is tightened up on to the forks
the headset tightens down and nips up onto the chrome ring when I've taken the headset off again got the Verniers out
and the new chrome ring is 1mm deeper than the original item.
Now before I file a little off the mating point on the clamp to lift the headset up is there any thing else I could do to get that 1mm back
or look at.

I had the same thing on mine. Or at least I think you mean the same thing.

If there's any gap between the chrome ring and the top of the legshields you can bend it downwards with a mallet.

Don't have the leggies fitted yet, and shall not untill I've sorted the headset out.

I'd be inclined not to try to bend it with a mallet- risk of breakage!
