I'm in the states. I periodically read references to log books in this and some other forums. Had never before heard of logbooks in connection with scooters.

What is a log book, what is entered into one, where are they required and why? Just one more government revenue scheme or is there more to it?

What we really mean by log book is the registration document, in the old days UK vehicles actually had a book where each owner was logged and the name stuck.

Yeah, we call it the logbook, but it's real name is the V5(C). It was last called a logbook in the 1930's I think, but we are a little slow to change!
It's similar to calling your document "pink slips", I believe. Whether it still is, or ever was pink, I have no idea!

In Grease they called them 'pinks'.
