I can normally sums things out but not this time.
Broken down, sounded like a carb problem. Anyway, carb cleaned (20mm), new plug, changed coil, reset points, great spark still not running. A rasping hiss coming from the carb area? Also the plug isn't getting too wet?

Stuck ring would be my guess, what does the compression feel like? Had any nip ups lately?

Also worth checking for any air leaks around the carb but I would expect you to be able to start it even if you have to put your hand over the carb.

The "hissing" would suggest an air leak. Even a small air leak in the carb' area would cause difficulty in starting (makes the choke useless).

Good call on the rings, looks like the top end needs to come off.

Bottom ring had broken up, also noticed the circlip broken. Off to AF's this afternoon for another piston or kit. I wouldn't care but I'm on my holidays, bloody scooters.

Yes it's a pain running it in again. I've up jetted it to keep it cooler, it's four stroking a bit but I can get it to smoother revs.

Tut,tut.I got my hands slapped for suggesting that you had to do 1000 miles to run in an iron barrel.
