out for a ride today , lights dimmed considerably and speedo started working off and on (SIP) , now i presumed the battery was low , haven`t used scoot for a while , question is wouldnt the stator it`s self keep the lights on ??
battery is 7.2ah alarm dry cell ,put a tester across the 2 yellows got 49.6 volts , but nowt from red wire is this correct ??

Output from the stator seems ok, I take it that was with the yellows disconnected? Which red are you talking about, the one from the stator or the red from the Wassel? The DC out of the Wassel is on the black and red but it will need a load (lights on) to get a reading.

As for the poor lights, yes the stator will power the lights but with a flat battery the lights will vary according to the speed of the engine in the same way as the AC system. At low revs i.e. town ridding, the stator doesn't start to put out decent volts until around 3k rpm so if you do a lot of town ridding, the battery will drain over time. Top it up with a car charger.

With the battery disconnected it might not work. With everything connected and the engine running you should get at least 13V across the battery.

The lights should work without the battery connected though from AC

Your stator output going to the 2 yellows on the wasell will measure in AC whatever. It will go up and down with revs so yes 40v AC will be fine
With your lights on and a battery connected anything after the wassel is measured in DC. and should be regulated to 13.5 max.
If your lights dont work with the engine running I would suspect a wire off or an iffy light switch. The dry alarm battery's work well till they hit a point of no return then will not charge or hold a charge. I still fit a capacitor across the red and black to give me that load or sometimes you may find it only outputting around 6 v. I would expect even a flat battery to act as a load but anyway your lights been on should be enough.

well re-charged the battery and lights are working nice and bright , getting 13.8 volts across battery , will have to wait and see now to see if it lasts !

Check the voltage across the battery with the engine and lights off, then start the engine and see what the volts rise to as you increase the revs, then turn on the lights. With the lights on and engine running compare the voltage against the initial battery volts. My guess is that you won't get above the battery voltage at much less than 3k rpm so if you ride with the lights on (I always do) and you are running at slow speeds a lot then your battery will gradually loose voltage and require periodic top ups from the mains.

sounds to me like the red from the wassel isn't connected to the loom/battery. broken wire maybe?
