Evening! Having issues with my gears. When riding I am finding it difficult to select gears, particularly when coming to lights/junctions. Sometimes I really have to give it some to get it into gear. Any advice appreciated as always :D

Change clutch plates and check that new ones are free to compress and not sticking.

I have just been through the same, clutch wouldn't drag when sttod in gear at a junction, it would slip when I kickstart and pull the clutch,
But I couldn't select neutral no matter how hard I tried whilst stood.

Turned out to be warped steels, and uneven heighted springs.
I got replacements from AF, but one the the new steels was more warped than some of the old ones, so I picked the best and all good now.
Road clutch, not the race one.

Shaun.

If its got a GP type gear selector sometimes the splines are cut wrong. When you select first gear the swivel hits the base and sometimes prevents selection.

clutch cable not adjusted correctly? I had the same symptoms with a standard set up and have always adjusted mine as per the original Work Shop Manual (gap between top lever and shoulder of 1/16th inch). I've found I have to decrease the gap to allow good selection- particularly coming up to lights etc) Could be that the cable has stretched?

AMENDED- I ORIGINALLY PUT "GEAR' INSTEAD OF "CLUTCH" MY BAD!!

Chris

Thanks all, I think I'll try with adjusting cables to start with see if that helps, they may well have stretched. If no joy then I have a new uprated selector spring that I'll stick in there next time I have to open her up.

why I was asking was because I feel the uprated spring is a bit too strong, anyone else find this?
