Now I bought a second hand GP crank off fleabay last yeah and the previous owner said he had it on a muggy engine (he's upgraded to a longer stoke jobby now) I plan to use it in a standard GP150 engine but given the reputation the standard SIL crank has- I'd rather not. I'm working to a uber small budget (as usual) so getting the rod changed etc can't happen. If the crank has been converted to a Jap bearing then it will be idea. Oh yeah its the same picky for both cranks which doesn't help things

I don't think there is any difference between them is there? I think you'll just have to take it on faith that it's a good un, having been used in a Mugello. Worst case scenario is that the bearings might fail if its a standard Indian one. But you ought to pick up on that when it starts running like a bag of nails.

The pictures look like identical stock pictures on the SR website.

Why not give them a ring or drop them a mail and ask if there's a visible difference?

jap bearing in one and indian bearing in the other..i fitted one of the jap bearings to a mugello and its proven to be a good crank so far, ive had to change two indian gp cranks on mates scoots both around a thousand miles because the big end bearings have failed , one looked more like pieces of wire than a bearing ..

Ive got a 200 SIl crank in one of my scooters, bought it from Scooter Restorations and touch wood its still going good and strong 6000 miles later

From memory, about 5 or 6 years ago, Scooter Restorations got a batch of SIL GP 200 cranks made up with better big end bearings. The reason being that, as has been mentioned above, the Indian bearings aren't up to the job. That's the difference in price.

Both my Lambrettas on the road have second hand SIL GP200 webs with, in one case, a Yamaha conrod and big end bearing, and in the other case, Kawasaki conrod and big end bearing. It is far from expensive to get these cranks made up and, if you take them to them to get pressed and balanced yourself, you don't run the risk of them being out of true again by the time it's been thrown around a post room

Same thing happened to my refurbed GP200 crank. Big end bearing disintegrated after 2000 miles.
The actual cranks are supposed to be good, just the shite bearings.
I now have a spare SIL crank as I put a whole new assembly in.
