Hi , im getting all the parts together for my polini 221 , so far I have purchased the 221 kit , a mazzy 60mm crank , I'm not sure about the crank but if everyone says its not the best I will swap it , a sip road 2 exhaust and all new bearings and gaskets , next on my list is the clutch and carb , this is where I need advise , I'm looking at bgm superstrong with a 24 tooth drive , will this be any good ? I'm after a torquey touring set up , will I need a shorter 4th gear (t5) as for the carb I was thinking of a 26/26 with polini Venturi kit , any help or suggestions guys , I just want to get it right , thanks

Pinasco crank, no t5 4th needed and would stick with 24mm with normal filter.
Built a mates engine with this set up and it was a torque monster and would really fly along also up the arses of gts 300's !!

What about Polini's own crank? A bit more expensive than the Pinasco but more inlet timing or you could go with Pinasco's 62mm item which is a bit more expensive again with further inlet timing.

SCK have an article on building this very engine on their blog site, from memory they used a 24t clutch cog and polini crank with a standard gear box. They included a dyno in the article and it topped out at around 6000 rpm and 26 nm of torque I think.

Cheers Jeff

Sean Brady built my polini 220 and for once I have a torquey, economical, RELIABLE tourer! well impressed and pleased....24mm spaco-idle jet 48/100, main stack-140-B3-128 no holes in filter and carb inlet cut by Sean, casings matched to polini barrel by Sean, reprofiled head-10:1, squished-1.4, packer 1.5, pinasco crank 60mm and cut by Sean, cosa banded, malossi springed clutch, standard 4th gear cog, JL pipe, dynode 19bhp-17 torque...cruises 60 economically and with ease and av seen 85 twice and backed it off.....
