.........from what i have read and seen the underside colour of the piston dome gives you the correct colour more than any other part for the right running temps. of your engine.......

if you are running too rich, the piston crown will not get hot enough to burn a small patch of oil on the underside. If it is too lean, the piston temp gets high enough to burn a big patch. Look for a patch about the size of your finger nail, and brownish in color. This is how they tuned the 2 stroke GP bikes."Unquote"
