folks,

I'm building my first Lambretta engine, and have some doubts about the state of the output shaft and whether or not I should re-use it or buy new. The splines are worn at the output end and I'm worried that they may harm the rear hub as well (which strangely seems fine, so may be a replacement)

I would happily buy new as they are only around £40 for a SIL one, but I'm slightly nervous about quality issues from India.

The nub of the question is; am I better off using what I've got as it's Innocenti, but packing it with 'bearing fit' before I fit the rear hub to it, or would an Indian one be perfectly acceptable quality.

The same question goes for my first gear which has some damage to the kickstart teeth.

cheers

I can recommend the SIL layshafts, as long as you buy from a good source (scooter restorations) and get a genuine SIL layshaft.

The alternative is the MB layshafts, but too priccey for my wallet.

If the splines are work on your current layshaft it's shot... it'll just need replacing in the future... do it now before it scraps your hub and puts you in danger.

That's what I wanted to hear. I'm spending a LOT of money building this engine and didn't want to compromise. I was just scared that SIL was poor quality as I'm pretty new to this Lambretta business. I was going to buy from Scooter restorations anyway as I have bought a few parts from them already and they seem to supply decent stuff.

thanks

Any thoughts on my first gear though?
