Hi all, I've been offered the chance to buy a complete 205 kit. I was hoping someone could give me some real life feedback on them. Are they reliable, how fast, are spares readily available? etc etc. I've only been offered the kit, so pipe, gearing and carb recommendations wouldn't go a miss either. Cheers in advance Pete.

Really good ran one for years on its last honda piston now but went all over on never any problems. Ran with a clubman and old amal. Good touring engine. I bought of a mate and he did some miles on it also. Pistons are hard to come by now but mb do one I think.I think honda do 3 over sizes. Then mb do some more I think using there pistons. These and the old 190 jap conversions ran loads and spot on people dismiss these now but if you can get one for a good price and it in good nick then you can't beat them for what they are. The Honda 205 was so good on juice also never needed a long range tank would do 70 miles to a stand tank. Did a 70 mph ful tilt but sat all day at 55 60 mph.

The Honda 205 bit only refers to the piston. Usually utilising a tuned standard barrel and could be stage 4,5 or 6 and tuned by any number of tuners. The pistons were good but haven't been made for donkeys years so if you find one. expect to pay a premium.

^... exactly what I was going to say. Just like saying a kit has an 'Asso thin ring piston conversion', Honda 205 gives you no details of the barrel or state of tuning.

I have 2 Dave Webster 205s, one served me extremely well on the road, even though a Stg. 6 ex-race barrel, whereas the other road tune barrel came with a piston that has been cut too short (previous owner, not DW) on the inlet side and it rattles so badly in the wide inlet port that I had to take it off within days of fitting it! I'm sure that a new piston cut correctly would resolve this issue but OEM pistons are hard to find and very expensive. MB does have remade pistons with the correct crown profile.

On that note, get the correct head with the kit (if you buy it) as the different crown profile does mean that you need a reprofiled head to suit.

Adam

Edit: Without knowing the state of tune on the barrel and pipe that you intend to use, it's very difficult to give any advice on gearing or setup.

Thanks fellas, it's seems this particular kit is on it's last over size and therefore not for me. After getting back into scooters 10 years ago I've only had the newer RB, TS and Imola type kits. I just fancy building up a cast iron motor and have heard good things about the 205 kits. Going on what's been said about them I'll keep looking for the right one to come up for sale. If I do find the right one I'll be back for more tips and hints. Thanks fellas.
