Bought a snap on endoscope today, brilliant piece of kit,

spent a hour looking at the surface of the piston, cylinder head and bore surface without having to remove the cylinder head, level of clarity is superb, very little carbon build up, think its running too hot thou, going to jet up a bit

will be able to view the underside of the piston going through the inlet port

also able to view inside the chaincase through drain plugs etc

its quite revolting looking up your nose with one thou

the one i use has a small hot halogen lamp on the end.......

anyway they are called bore scopes get your drz out david and look at the valves opening and shutting......its great :bouncing:

.........from what i have read and seen the underside colour of the piston dome gives you the correct colour more than any other part for the right running temps. of your engine.......

if you are running too rich, the piston crown will not get hot enough to burn a small patch of oil on the underside. If it is too lean, the piston temp gets high enough to burn a big patch.
