Out on the lambretta yesterday everything was fine.
got into traffic and was lot of stop start, i then pull in clutch and engine stalls got it into neutral started it up again put it into first and same thing happened. it then started to function properly again but when i accelerated felt as though speed did not correspond with revs. it was working fine for first 15 20 minutes

if you are lucky its just adjustment- you need some free movement at the handlebar lever (the old WSM says 1/16th inch)
However, if its been wrongly adjusted for a while, its likely the plates have worn which could be the reason for your clutch slip ("speed did not correspond with revs"). In that case new clutch plates (corks steels and springs if you are dismantling anyway)
Gear box oil level? checked?
Gear cable routing?

It sounds like you have 2 problems: the clutch is not disengaging when pulled in (hence the stalling when selecting 1st) and a slipping clutch...Further adjusting the clutch to solve the first problem would probably compound the problem of the second ?
I would first try a new outer and inner cable, if that fails it's the clutch out...

I doubt it. There's loads of lads who only use their scooters between May and August
and they're stood for the rest of the time. If you had oil in the engine i wouldn't have thought it would cause a problem.......if it did it would be the stalling when engaging gear....
