Piston ring gap on GT186

Been running the gt kit for about 2 years now, with no problems until this week when my drive bearing went, causing oil seal leak, which I have replaced this week. but on start up sounded like a bag of nails! On strip down again I measured the ring gap and it was 2mm, this seems too large, what should the ring gap be?
