Trying to get a spark from an engine, in frame, so that I can move onto to next stage of rebuild. However, I'm not getting a spark! The set-up is a standard 200 with an indian electronic ignition. The regulator, CDI, wiring loom and ignition are all brand new. The stator plate has just had a new LT and trigger coil (black box) and new wiring up to the CDI and regulator. I am assuming all new equipment is ok, as well as the earth connections for the CDI and regulator ( these are mounted on to a SLJ mounting bracket, earths attached to mounting bolts and paint removed from the frame). I have removed the green wire of the loom from the CDI to bypass the ignition, but to no effect. Also, I have checked TDC and set timing / stator plate to 19 degress BTDC. Any ideas would be appreciated to solve this.

Any ideas would be appreciated to help solve this.

The scooter is up on a hydraulic ramp which sits on a carpet, possibly foam backed, then onto concrete. Is there any chance this could mess around with the earth connections?

Thanks in advance, Mark

Don't worry about the scoot being on a ramp/carpet as when earth is mentioned it actually means the frame.
More than likely it's a duff CDI but have you tested to see if you get a spark off the green from the stator?
Scooter restorations have a good link for fault finding on the bottom of the page.

Cheers Firekdp, had a quick look at the link and looks useful. There is a spark coming from the green stator wire, not always brilliant maybe. Should the brown spark as well (as it does)? Possibly the CDI then, as you say. will try another one tomorrow.

Thanks, Mark

Check the resistance between the green and white wire from the stator to make sure the LT coil is ok, sound slike a similar issue to mine over this weekend - I know you said its new but you never know..
If it aint broke.........tinker with it.....

Problem solved. The stator plate wiring was colour-coded differently to how I thought it had been. Spoke to the person who wired it, to check over it with a multimeter, he checked how I was connecting it, spotted the problem and told me how he had colour-coded it. End result being.. a spark!!

Thanks for everyones help and input.
