Kickstart not clearing exhaust b

Ok. So my kickstart is not clearing my clubby exhaust... By a country mile!!!! Have cut the kickstart tongue so it clears but now it misses the stopper on the casing but seems to not return to high and works fine. My question is this... Doos a kickstart really need the tongue to hit the stopper on casing?

All the return force will be on the reference pin now so it could snap off if using the LI casing ramp but it may be ok with a GP endplate . Weld the stop back on then consider bending or rewelding the tail pipe to clear.
