Was starting-now no spark!

Anything related to Lambrettas... ask tech questions, post helpful info, or just read and learn.

Hi all,
Building a serveta/eibar from ground up. New BGM stator and with indian flywheel (cast with short fin version) and ducati CDI. Had this set up working and timed in. Suddenly would not start so worked my way back from the spark plug. No spark. Checked allway back to the cdi. Nowt coming from it. Checked green wire from stator-yellow spark on the engine case.
So now i suspect the cdi and sent it back to beedspeed who confirm it's ok. So try a known good cdi from my gp-again no spark. All earths are good and resistance figures from the stator are good at approx 500 and 100 ohms.

I'm flummoxed on this as it worked and then suddenly stopped. Can't see any loose connections either.
All suggestions appreciated. :)

Have you tried it with the green that goes to the ignition switch, removed from the CDi ?

Try another stator, then maybe the flywheel....

I had the same issue a couple of months back. Turned out to be a dodgy plug after I swapped out most of the electrical system 1st :oops:

Well you didn't say so. That's why i suggested it.
If you are certain you get a spark direct from the stator to engine case, that indicates the LT coil is probably good.
Possibly the black box (trigger) is naff or maybe the alignment is out.

How would i check that? It does seem strange that i initially worked fine though...

If you mean the black-box? The quickest way is fit a different stator. The option is to buy a new black-box fit it to the stator and see what happens. You could waste money on it though..................
If you mean the alignment? You need to peer into it using a torch and see if the two trigger plates on the black-box line up nicely with the cross-over magnets on the flywheel.

Like i said...change stator and eliminate the stator. Stators can read ok with a meter but breakdown under load. New stators with faults are not that un-common.

A crack or loose magnets in the flywheel can also prove a problem........

I guess I'll be stripping the stator and flywheel of the working GP then chaps..... :P

Something has definately 'blown' on the present set up
