......i understand one is being brought out, it has been tested on road and dyno (and at Elvington at the last sprint meet) and is producing up to 30% more power through the midrange etc. Resulted in better top speeds on the sprint track when tested back-2-back against the previous non-mappable ignition fitted.
Anyone got more info or pictures???

In laymans terms...rbgaz wrote:hi monkey, could u explain for me what a mappable ignition is , cheers
Standard ignitions fire at a fixed point...whatever the mechanic sets it at, say 17 degrees before top dead centre (17 BTDC) or 19 BTDC etc.
The currently available advance/retard ignition boxes can be added to retard the ignition in a linear fashion, for example they might start at 20 BTDC and retard back 1 degree every 1000rpm.
So 20BTDC@1000rpm, 19BTDC@2000rpm, 18BTDC@3000rpm and so on.....
However a mappable ignition can go back and forth in any direction, any amount of degrees. So maybe 20BTDC@1000, 15BTDC@2000 18BTDC@ 3000 etc...any amount in any direction at any RPM.
It creates 3D maps like this:

This all helps to broaden power-bands and extend RPM ranges effectively.
