What are peoples thoughts on the external fuel filters with the clear casing, any good or just bling?

Was advised some time ago NOT to run with TS1 as it will slow the flow of fuel from the fast flow tap thus potential fuel starvation..you might have the same prob syd as your going to run RB20 I beleive
..might be a load of s**t by the way,,just that I was told a long time ago.... A NO NO.......?

i personally have never and will never run an inline fuel filter, theres a filter in the tank and one in the carb check these on a regular basis and should be fine, was told once if you do feel the need to run a filter just dont go with the cheap glass and chrome looking jobs.

Totally agree, and proved it on a dyno with a MBD one.Lam46 wrote:Was advised some time ago NOT to run with TS1 as it will slow the flow of fuel from the fast flow tap thus potential fuel starvation..you might have the same prob syd as your going to run RB20 I beleive..might be a load of s**t by the way,,just that I was told a long time ago.... id say the fuel starvation problem could be to small float neddle holes or a carb that was designed not to flow as much fuel as a tuned lammy needs also people dont check how much there fast flow tap is flowing people asume that if they run it on the reserve setting there getting twice the flow when infact all ther getting is a slightly increased flow through the slightly larger reserve setting ,you dont get both holes worth of fuel through as the bit that turns doesnt have a cut out to allow this unless modified
the prob of running weak is why i have a EGT hopefully this will indicate to some extent if things go wrong fuel wise

I went to Halfords, found a filter that was a reasonable size and used that. Nice and cheap and designed for a car and so the flow rate was more than ample. The amount of crap it collected was scary.

I had an inline filter on a ts1, when the fuel went low the engine over rev'd when coming to a halt with the clutch lever pulled in. I jibbed the filter and the problem went away. Having been advised by a scooter god not to use one again, so never will. Lambrettas fuel flows by gravity and inline filters restrict the flow. If the fuel was fed via a pump, a filter would be fine.
