I had my mates TS1 in my bike for 6 months - I told him I would replace all the consumables before he got it stuck into an Li he has getting a resto, so, new bottom end seals and bearings, chain, clutch plates and rings went in. Just started it up there and it seems to have a top end rattle. Now, I didn't check the piston/bore clearance but the rings that were in it had approx 2 - 2.5mm gap. New rings were tight so I filed them down a bit but can't remember what the gap was when assembled apart from it was as tight as Sticky suggests (can't be arsed going out to the garage to check the book!), so should I strip top end and maybe loosen up the new rings or could it be the piston/bore clearance? There was no rattle there before and to be honest for the rings having such a massive gap it still went like s**t off a shovel...
Cheers in advance..

rebuilt/ semi rebuilt engines do tend to be noisier when "new"- hopefully it should settle down.
When you fitted the new rings did you "glaze-bust" the bore so that they would bed in quicker?

I don't think you'd want to do that on a plated barrel ...

Stripped top end again and tolerances are all spot on, will just put it down to new rings and run it in then see how it sounds. Cheers.
