Could I?

Hi all, I'm currently running on a AC 12V electronic system on my Lammy and as everyone knows the horn is next to useless. So my question is, could i fit a small battery in my toolbox and then run the horn from that, then fit a BGM rectifier / regulator and trickle charge the battery? I'm next to useless with anything electrical, so sorry in advance, if this is a silly question. Pete

I'm happy with my lights, it's the horn i want to improve. So in laymans terms how can i do that please? Cheers Pete

This is exactly the setup I have on my Lammy, AC for the lights and DC for the horn, indicators and soon for my new SIP speedo.
Presumably as you are already running an electronic ignition you are running 12v and have a 3pin regulator. All you have to do is replace this with either the BGM regulator or a 5pin regulator such as this: http://beedspeed.com/product_info.php?c ... ts_id=4144

You can then add a small battery (there is now a huge choice of small 12v batteries available, I have a sealed burglar alarm type) and wire up a new DC horn ( I got mine of the bay for $5.00 delivered!) via a fuse. I now have a decent horn that you can actually hear. :biggrin:

Here is a basic instruction on how to wire up the regulator: http://beedspeed.com/manuals/Reg%20Box% ... ctions.pdf and I am sure the BGM one would come with instructions.

Here's a pic of my battery installation (in the toolbox but accessed from outside the toolbox).



I think the changeover was well worthwhile and if you need a simple wiring diagram I can do one for you

Glad you like it, yes it's got indicators back & front, but not too intrusive.

We are quite lucky here in WA. If you've got the money (and no one else has already got it) you can have just about anything you want.

All requests go before a panel to check that they aren't offensive but there are some really clever ones going around on cars at the moment. My favourite is " eensy weensy" (not sure of spelling) on an Alfa Romeo Spyder.
