Hi All

I see that Mec Eur is now selling their own Lambretta 200 barrel. Has anyone seen one ? Is it just a re-boxed SIL barrel or is it something new ? I'm looking to find out if it has the stock SX porting. I'm done trying to screw around with the SIL Stage 4 barrels, the transfer ports are always too large.

Thanks

Glen

IMHO you can't get the transfers too large on an Indian 200 barrel without breaking through into fresh air. In std form the transfers are way too small.

Just been on the Mec Eur site and they seem to be the bargain of the century at 66 euro here's a copy paste from their site.

CC433 INNOCENTI LAMBRETTA LI 125cc Ø 52.00
CC435 INNOCENTI LAMBRETTA LI 150cc Ø 57.00
CC436 INNOCENTI LAMBRETTA TV 175cc Ø 62.00
CC437 INNOCENTI LAMBRETTA FLI 175cc Ø 62.00
CC439 INNOCENTI LAMBRETTA DL SX 200cc Ø 66.00
CC440 INNOCENTI LAMBRO 200cc 600 V Ø 66.00

Their English homepage is http://www.meceuritalia.com/prodotti.asp?categ=12

BTW their kits may be an even better bargain as they sell only asso pistons for lambrettas.

I don't think its 66 Euro

I think it refers to the bore size
Scootering since 1968.

yes, those numbers are the bore sizes. every SIL barrel I have seen has a transfer timing of around 130 degrees. This either limits the revs if the inlet and exhaust are on the small side (think Lambretta LD's, they have huge transfer ports, plenty of torque, no revs and are hard to tune) or works well with and engine that functions in the 7-10,000 RPM range which is too high for your average road going Lambretta. I don't need a race bike, I need to haul my 250 pound ass up hills.

Most of the ones I've seen have 118 to 120 trf timing and need raising to 124 degrees (which I think is ideal for low down grunt with decent revout when accompanied by 172 exhaust and 152 inlet)

That's why Indian barrels cleaned up a bit work great with 60mm cranks.

Looks like your right re the 66 eur being bore size. Might not be available because the cranks aren't.

I've had 2 SIL barrels and they both had around 130 degree transfer timing and poorly machined top edges. I know that you can get good or bad ones and I always end up seeing bad ones. Ended up going back to my standard Serveta barrel which I ported to inlet 142 degrees (7.19 cm2), transfers to 126 degrees (2.41 cm2) and exhaust to 168 degrees (5.66 cm2) which is all very conservative (aimed for an optimum 6000 rpm) and low end torque oriented. Using a skimmed head, Dellorto PHBH 28 with a remote filter and MB manifold and a Saigon copy of the old under the kickstart AF Fresco. Runs much better than the SIL barrel and pulls the SX gearing WAAAAY better in 4th. Might convert to one of the new MB Clubmans when they are out just for the noise level.

I fitted a MEC cylinder a few years ago and it was crap. The cast was so soft it wore out in no time ,stick with the SIL barrel it's much harder wearing and will last.I agree the porting is rubbish but can be clean up and if the transfer timing is too much have the base shortened to bring the timings down then alter the ex and inlet to suit.

Couldn't see a listing on the MEC site for Meteor pistons. Wouldn't run a meteor myself.
