scooter laid up for a few weeks, I noticed fresh oil under gearbox which I traced to rubber grommet at rear of carb (mixture screw) I have previously changed gaskets, tightened down correctly and even smoothed down the carb base on fine emery in case of high spots.!!!! still slow dribble....t5 not me.Am i right in thinking oil is stopped draining, by gravity, from the tank by a ball bearing and spring in the carb and could this be my problem if its stuck open.....the oil leak is not a major prob just annoying

The spring and ball are in the alloy carb box under the pump but very rarely jam.If the carb base is flat(lay on a piece of glass) then it is more likely to be spitback from the carb collecting in the airbox and running down the engine.

just noticed this year my P2 doing the same :-( took carb box top off and could see oil at rear of box, removed carb and replaced gasket between carb and box. old gasket was wet through, so suspected fault.
2 weeks later, notice oil spots back on garage floor, aargh, same again, oil running out of gromet at rear of carb box, aargh !!

whatever you do , DONT be tempted to put sealant of some sort, silicon or otherwise, between carb, box, or casings. this will block the oil galleyways, and lead to major problems.

It is interesting to note that the early airbox had a small drain stub to have a pipe running down the back of the engine to drain away any spit back.
