Mugello 186.. I have a choice of an li150 gear box or an Italian gp200 box which would be better running with an ancilotti exhaust? :?:

Hi, I run a couple of Mugello 186 scooters. I find GP200 gears with standard sprockets (5.22:1) is good with a JL3 expansion, whilst the one with a Clubman can easily pull Li 125 with 17/46 (4.9:1).
With a JL3 mine has a definite power band and not a lot happens below 5000rpm, yet the Clubman gives a torquey ride which is great two up.
Each solution is good, but the ride is as different as chalk and cheese! :)
So, all you have to do is decide whether your Ancilotti is more like a JL3 or a Clubby! ;)
Your Li 150 with 15/46 has about the same final ratio as the GP 200 with 18/47, (5.2:1)
The Li would be my choice as it has a more even difference between the gears, while a SIL GP 200 box has got a distinct gap between 2nd and 3rd.

When I built my Mk1 Mugello 186 a few yeats ago, I used an Li 150 box and 16/46 sprockets. Ran it like that for a year or so but it struggled to pull top gear, 62mph flat out on the flat and it just died going up hill or with the mrs on the back. Eventually put the standard 15 front sprocket on and it was much better. Thgart was with a 28/30 PWK and a Sito Ancilotti.

Li 125, I agree. Li 150, too long IMHO at 4.6:1. :o

I run with an LI150 box, and 14/47.
No problem with hills/headwinds anymore.

Final drive on my Li150 box with 17 46 is 4.98 which works well IMO

According to Avantone's gearbox visualiser(c) Li150 with 17/46 gives a final ratio of 4.6:1.
I think you might be confusing Li 150 and 125 boxes. ;)

I've a li150 with a pacemaker box and just assumed this was too, 17 46 gives my box a final drive 4.98 but in this case it would be 4.6 which may not be so good!
