Is there a special pencil used to draw a design on a panel that can then be airbrushed over?

Not that I'm aware of Mike, are you looking to mark out a design for freehand airbrushing? I know a signwriter who's done a bit of work on scoots who uses a chinagraph to mark out his lettering but he's oldschool and paints freehand.soulsurfer wrote:Is there a special pencil used to draw a design on a panel that can then be airbrushed over?
I trained and worked as an illustrator and used an airbrush a lot when I was younger but I just used a normal pencil (something like a 2H and always very sharp so you got a very fine light line), but that was mostly on CX22 board and not onto vehicle bodywork.

Hi Matt, I was talking to one of my customers whilst marking out a dent axis with a chinagraph, he restores cars as a hobby as well as a car dealer, and he asked me, I thought a chinagraph pencil would be too waxy to go over with paint, but thought I saw DD making out at IW last year, so was curious.
I'm more geometric straight lines than a freehand artist
Nice video BTW

I use the Stabilo 'Aquarellable' pencils when I practising my striping
Any decent signwriter or pinstriping supplier will have them in various colours.
They're washable so once the paint's dry you can wash the pencil marks away.
If you're struggling to get one let me know and I'll get a couple for ya.
What colours do ya need?
Or have a look on Ebay:
Don't get the Aquacolur as they're a watercolour paint pencil
or here
Cheers

I do not try to explain why I ride Lambrettas,
For those who understand, no explanation is necessary,
For those who don't, no explantion is possible.

I was thinking the same thing last week
would the stabilo pens affect the the paint if they were sprayed over ? ie discolour, fisheye, etc. ?

When i was young my Mom said "if you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing at all " ..................... and people wonder why I'm quiet around them !
