Brand new indian casing, brand new needle bearing and brand new Xmas tree, but bottom of Xmas tree won't fit into casing. A fraction tight. Help!!

From memory the diameter of the gear cluster is 16mm at the base. If yours is 16 then I can only assume you've got the wrong bearing.

I had a worn out Italian LI cluster that was 15.7mm that I had to get re-sleeved, but I've never heard of one being too big to fit into the bearing before.

I'll measure it lunchtime with my vernier guage, but pretty sure it's a nat's whisker over 16mm.

It was bought off a reliable dealer at Wicksteed. It measures 16.01mm diameter.

The bearing is supposed to be 16mm ID, did you replace the cluster track?

Is it perhaps a little over size too? Maybe compressing the rollers...
