Ok i decided to be a tight wad and not spend much on my vespa so told my advisor mr cezeta i didn't want to spend £200 on a rebuilt/never used P2 engine
so he has bought me a DR kit (used)
so don't suppose i will be cruising the autobahns soon
hopefully i can keep the standard carb and exhaust

I've been wonderin' this same thing. I need to be able to climb these San Francisco hills. Wondering what can be done with the stock cylinder and piston. I've got a pipe in the works but that might kill the torque. My bike has 600 miles on it from 79.

Cezeta found it on eBay for me
the guy still has some left.
DR kit fitted but needs some fettling on diablo's dyno (15/11/11)
only niggling problem the starter pulls clear after starting but just touches the gear wheel on the flywheel so i get a little ding ding ding noise

re- the starter problem. remove flywheel, wind starter out by hand, there is a rubber washer under the starter cog on the motor, this swells up with age/oil contamination. remove this, put flywheel back on . this will solve the problem. nowt wrong with DR177, ran in correctly, they are very hard wearing. dont expect TS1 performance, but they are cheap as chips. run it with a 24mm carb, sito plus, 21 tooth clutch cog . good budget set up. expect about 60-65mph,
