I have just noticed a rattle coming from the engine, it's still there when the clutch is engaged and disengaged, the rattle does get faster as you rev it, but the scoot still drives fine with no loss of power, I though it was the flywheel but everything seams to be fine there, the engine was stripped and gear train is within tolerance, so I'm baffled, the only thing left is either con rod or small or big end? anyone else had this problem? cheers.
has it got a Cosa clutch fitted?

Could be piston slap or small end..think big end is more of a knock

normal clutch fitted, I took the stator plate off earlier and everything looks in place nothing loose, but I did notice an ever so slight play in the shaft which the stator place bolts onto, could it be the bearing? and would it make a rattle?

I've fitted new crank and new bearings in a P2 before and noticed a tiny bit of play on the flywheel side. Ran it for thousands of miles with no rattle and no problems..........
Clutch basket worn?

Are you sure it isn't something simple like the fan, airbox, or selector covers?taff763 wrote:I have just noticed a rattle coming from the engine

Just had engine in bits put new small end bearing and flywheel side bearing and the b#$tard rattle is still there, whilst stripped everything looked fine all gears ok end float ok on the xmas tree, all other bearings have no play in them, clutch is a completeley new, there was no play in the Big end and con rod looks ok, everything in the carb box is secured, the noise is still there when I pull the clutch back and put her in gear, it sounds more prominent around the top of the fly wheel, I have placed a long screwdriver held to my ear everywhere around the engine, and all I can hear is normal bearing noise and no rattle, I can't place it on the flywheel to listen or I'll end up like "van Goch" so anyone out there got any ideas before I start hitting my scoot with a big hammer.
Cheers
