Just having a problem with my series 2 it suddenly wont tickover runs great with some revs. The plug is a little on the darkside but running in a afrayspeed stg 4 tuned 175 kit so not too worried about it being on the rich side. Its getting difficult to start from cold although choke is definatley working. Tried the mixture screw in all positions as well as the tickover screw all the way in but still wont tickover. I did struggle to get it to tickover with a 45 pilot on 22mm jetex so put in a 48 (dealer didnt have a 47) and it seemed to sort it done 400 miles so far and it has just decided it wont tickover. On the wayback from run to the hills today at junctions it started to rev its nuts off as though the carb had stuck wide open. Worried it could be an air leak possibly from the manifold air hose isnt split and as i say it did 70 miles today and 60 odd yesterday without a problem its just at tickover when it dies.
Thanks for any help in advance gonna have a good look at it tomorrow.

Id give everything a nip up to be on the safe side especially the head as you've done 400 miles now, just checked mine as tick over vanished and law and behold a nut was loose infact it had stripped itself so replaced nip it up and its back to normal now..check manifold and carb and down pipe nuts as well.

Try bending the small lever down on the throttle linkage where the idle screw and spring sit ,this will jack the idle up so it will tick over, maybe worth cleaning the carb out and checking the throttle cable where it goes onto the carb to see if its getting caught up .

Hope this helps.

Whatever it is seems to be something really insignificant. I've had plenty of problems like it and 50% was the throttle cable playing up as they are suggesting. Give a thorough clean to the carb, make sure everything is correct and that you have a propper air and petrol flow. This week I had a customer that brought back a carb saying that it was getting flooded. No wonder, there was a small chip of wood or some strange matter blocking the main jet! :-o

Have you cleaned through the pilot jet?

Another interesting fact. Sometimes when I turn on the reserve, my own scooter (GP150 engine with 22mm jettex) does exactly what you are saying. It goes away after I give it a good rev and catch high speed. Then I generally take the carb and give it a clean. There is crap in the petrol that keeps piling at the bottom of the petrol tank and hat happens everywhere I beleive.

thanks everyone for your replies will try bending the clip so the tickover screw "catches" better. I have run it down to the reseve so thats a chance too. It was reving when i was sitting on the scoot as the throttle cable was flexing.I sorted that but now it wont even tickover hopefully gonna get a look at it tonight will lt you all know.
Thanks again for akng the time to reply it is very much appreciated.
