Metalic base coat woes ?

Hi,
Ive sprayed a silver metalic base coat, then masked off areas with 3m fine line tape and then ordinary masking tape. Ive then sprayed a different colour base coat, and then removed the tape, with good results.
The problem is when i sprayed the first coat of lacquer you could see where the masking tape had been

, ive tried panel wipe thinking it is glue residue, but its still the same
Any ideas why
Should i have applied one coat of lacquer before the second colour
Thanks
Russ

My guess is that it hadn't fully gone off before you put the masking tape on. Having said that though it isn't very resiliant any way. Putting a coat of clear on is a good idea anyway before adding extra colours as if you make a mistake, it's possible to remove the last coat down to the laquer (with care)

Hi guys,i've used 3m fine line tape with low stick masking tape from wicks with good results but its better to put a coat of lacquer on first as mentioned.

Thanks for the replies
I used 1 part base coat, left over night, masked off the next day with 3m fine line tape and then normal masking tape and newspaper. i pulled the tape of 5 mins after spraying. The marks were left by both tapes which was only noticeable after the first coat of 2pac lacquer.
Ive resprayed then, and another problem has occurred

When i sprayed the second coat of lacquer, some of the base coat has reacted

only in a couple of areas

I would of thought it would of reacted after the first coat, if it was going to
The first coat was left over night to dry before a denib with a mirka grey pad.
If the second coat was to thick would this make it react ?
