Just having a play with my TS1 and wondering what pipe to go for after selling the Taffy.

Its going fairly balls out, the obvious choice is the JL Race but has anybody any comparisons with a Fat Mamba.

I have the cone sizes for a purpose made pipe for this barrel but that will come later hopefully......

Haven't seen many about so what they like and where is the pipe making its power? Any ideas?

Thought you were happy with the Taff Adam?

I'm more than likely talking arse but I seem to remember the Mamba lacked somewhat lower down but that might be what you're after? Gotta say they look the absolute Balls though.

Hi Pal, yeh was happy and will regret selling it no doubt in the future.

Taken a different take on my old TS this year.....was going rb but thought against it in the end.

It will be pretty racey, so just wondering if anybody has any preference to the JL Race?

Only my opinion but these for me are some of the pros and cons for both.
JL4 Pros
Fits pretty well and easily
Makes excellent power over other pipes
Good back up service from JL if something goes wrong

JL Cons
Horrendous ground clearance at the down pipe
A horrible lip just inside the down pipe where the pipe meets the header
Prone to cracking around the downpipe

Fat Mamba Pros
Makes good power
Looks good
Excellent look for cutdowns

Fat Mamba cons
Too heavey to have an unsupported tail can(which falls off-not cheap)
Bitch to fit at the manifold and a right bugger if the gasket blows

There is another option in that JBs through Andy Francis now have the RB Franspeed race made for TS1. Not sure how different they are to JL4s but probably worth a phone call to JBs

Cheers Al,

Were planning a dyno session with both pipes but don't seem to have seen any details re the Mamba......better dig out some mags.

These seem to be the two in the running......I'm taking it from tourer to Thursday night thrasher.....

No welding to cases though, thats cheating :D

Looks like JL 4 ;) or the Fran......

Measured up a number of pipes today JL3 & Race, Fat Mamba and some others.....

The Fat Mamba comes out very similar to the JL3 (not in diameter) which was confirmed by the topping out at similar rpm's on dyno runs.

So my findings seem to think that the Fat Mamba ain't no competitior for the Race (some say a bit too peaky) in the 'Revvy Race/Balls out' requirements. More like fast road/tourer me thinks......nice piece of kit though.

Just if anybody is interested...... :D

Hi, i've just joined the forum as I was looking for write-ups on the Mamba.

Was I un-lucky? Can other people check the internal quality of the blends and joints on a Mamba?

The Mamba manifold that I have just fitted to a customers TS was awfull.
It had a massive step from the flange to the pipe. Flange was 35mm and pipe 42mm :o .
I had to spend an hour getting it blended as the steel is rock hard. And that was running at 14,000rpm with carbide burrs.
Yes they look good from the outside, but rough on the mating internals, and smooth blends are more important to me than what it looks like.
I don't want to put PM down as I've had good service and good results from their products, and the mamba pipe makes decent power. But I wasn't happy with the extra work on this, as I just couldn't bring myself to fit something that had a jump in diameter like this.
Cheers

it would be interesting to throw a std pm28 pipe into the shootout, ive always been a fan of them on a ts1.

I've been very happy with my JL Race. When the power comes on it comes on! My DevTour is no slouch either. Both pipes make me want to rev out in all the gears, which is fun but expensive.
