This is a long story and I have been waiting for over 5 months to get this thing painted (Bloody local sprayers - Why can't they just give you a date and stick to it) So I'll keep it as short as poss
I am just rebuilding a Series II and at long last, with all the paintwork back from the painters, am at the stage where I am ready to bolt on the legshields. I loosely bolted them to the two 5mm bolts on the upper bracket that the horncasting bolts to, it was obvious something was amiss here, as the legshields did not sit on the cross members ...
So I offered up the horncasting and to my horror realised that this would not fit either, as the casting where the badge sits held the horncasting off the legshields..... Plus there were no holes for the horncasting badge clip... Eeeeek ...... The bloody thing has a Series I legshield bracket not a Series II !!!!
Now bearing in mind that this frame is the most beautiful original pristine frame you are ever likely to see and has all the original factory brackets with factory welds - Then this is surely an anomoly - The frame number is Li150*8000** (Last two numbers are below 90) and has a genuine innocenti stamped number too...
Now for some more of the story, when I bought this it was dressed as a Series 1 and looked original in white with twin seats and red panels, horncasting and handlebars (Although there was overspray on the electrical connector block in red) - The original engine had been replaced at some time with a later Series 1/2 unit - I stripped it several years back, took the frame only for shot blasting at first and when I collected it back, I took a load more parts to be shot blasted at the same time .... Unbelievably I had a load of parts stolen from the shot blasters (He will not swear as to who it was but I know who it is but cannot prove a thing)they included the original legshields, footboards, toolbox, toolbox door and sidepanels from memory as this was around three years ago.....
So basically I have a genuine Series II frame but with a Series I legshield/horncasting bracket - Not wanting to cut this off and re-weld/modify I am now in the position of making some nylon or alloy spacers to space the legshields away from the bracket in order that they will correctly line up and also now in the need of a Series I horncasting for sensible money......
Can anyone help me please

I have a series 1 and a series 2 both with the series 1 horncasting bracket on them. On the series 2 the welding on the bracket is sufficiently crap enough to make anyone think it could be genuine italian factory welding
. Its probably been put on to do a series one resto looky-likey or so it can run the 'twin' headlight look.
Always dry build them first o avoid this sort of discovery when everything is shiney and painted. Good luck finding a horncast.... they are like rocking horse sheeeeeet!

its possible you do have a series one frame ,some of the numbers on (especially 125)were well out of the numbering range given for s1's i have a frame breather 125 yet it is 59 despite the fact the rear grill was omitted by then ,but then surly then the scoot must have had a s1 horn cast also
i take it your top bracket is like this ??

mine has had the lower part of the bracket removed to fit a s2 casting

Thanks for your reply Tommy Boy - It did have the S1 horncasting on it when I bought it, but the length of time betwean stripping and rebuild and the fact that the dating certificate came through as S2 meant that I went out and bought pre owned S2 legshields and horncasting and didn't want to offer up rusty old stuff to the nice pristine frame and add to that the fact that I have in all my years only ever rebuilt two S2's but not one S1.... So you're right a dry build would have been the answer

Hello Ricspeed, Yeah mate that's the bracket and yes the scoot had an S1 horncasting on it when I bought it but I wasn't aware that the brackets were different due to my lack of knowledge on S1 frames - So it would seem that the factory made errors with frame stamping then, that's interesting - Thanks for that info - So all I need to do now is place a wanted add for an S1 Horncasting - Thanks -RICSPEED wrote:It's possible you do have a series one frame ,some of the numbers on (especially 125)were well out of the numbering range given for s1's i have a frame breather 125 yet it is 59 despite the fact the rear grill was omitted by then ,but then surely then the scoot must have had a s1 horn cast also

not errors as such but it would seem that a number of early frames got forgotten about at the factory ,is yours(numbering wise) a late series two prior to slimstyle at all or very early?? and just out of interest is the grill area cut out or not ?RCA_Racer wrote:Hello Ricspeed, Yeah mate that's the bracket and yes the scoot had an S1 horncasting on it when I bought it but I wasn't aware that the brackets were different due to my lack of knowledge on S1 frames - So it would seem that the factory made errors with frame stamping then, that's interesting - Thanks for that info - So all I need to do now is place a wanted add for an S1 Horncasting - Thanks -RICSPEED wrote:It's possible you do have a series one frame ,some of the numbers on (especially 125)were well out of the numbering range given for s1's i have a frame breather 125 yet it is 59 despite the fact the rear grill was omitted by then ,but then surely then the scoot must have had a s1 horn cast also
