a mate of mine is pulling his hair out over this one.
scooter runs perfectly, starts first or second kick ,rides it around for a few weeks, one day whilst out he stopped the engine, wont start again, no spark, new plug, no spark, gets it home fits new stator, starts ok. Runs it about for a few more weeks then same again,no spark, change plug ,no spark . new stator , and CDi unit all ok again.
Rode it down to the Sid James rally in isle of sheppy, bike runs like a dream, gets to site, kills the engine , pays his entrance fee to the site, starts scooter again, finds a place to camp, goes to start scooter , no spark, Relay van home :(.
When the scooter is running it runs perfectly, no intermittant cutting out ,starts fine. so what might be causing the stators to pack up?
any help may stop him from becoming Bald :!:

hi my mate had exactly the same symptons and problems it turned out to be a twisted crank knocking the stators out.

had a vespa in doing the same . 40 miles, would die, change plug, again, 40 miles, die"d again. that one was a black NGK resistor plug cap that was knacking the plug . changed the cap , and its ok, and got rid of the bad starting, and occasional backfire. the lad got the cap cheap off ebay. caused him loads of trouble , he saved fifty pence mind...............

What you are describing sounds like the crank is twisted but not by much.
Have a look at the flywheel. If there are witness marks on the magnets its the crank.
