i'm running a malossi 210 with matched casings & t5 fourth & scoot rs pipe through a standard carb with a 132 main jet, I'm quite impressed with the performance increase from standard but would like to know if a bigger carb would make much differance to performance or would i just be wasting money?
The scoot hits 50 in 2nd & 65 in 3rd but acceleration in top just isn't there. can this be achieved with a bigger carb or am i expecting too much.
I'm not planning on reed valve conversion yet, but may do in the future if this is the only way to get a better top speed.
Cheers, Gary

Hi mate if you want it to stay reliable leave as is. You can make good gains with a bigger carb and reedvalve but it depends on what your after. Is your crank still standard or has it been cut or changed, has your flywheel been lightened. Again good power gains for not to much expense. I have a box standard (gets me anywhere) a 210 simular to yours with a 30mm (doesn't let me down much) and a 210 tuned to death (breaks loads)
. Give me my tuned 210 anyday

I have cut the crank, and when i say acceleration isn't there i suppose it's not too bad , it goes right off the clock but i was wondering if it could get a bit faster more quickly in top with say a 26mm carb or would the jetting keep performance as it is, or would the differance just not be enough to warrant spending the dosh?

Hi gee i have not tried a 26mm but i have used 28mm and 30mm and to be honest acceleration is about the same as yours would be until you crank the throttle open purely because they slighly bog down at lower revs. middle and top end will be better but then theres the petrol issue. I have found my tuned 210 with reedvalve uses about the same amount of fuel as your state of tune.
As to warrant spending the dosh i would say yes every time until it breaks (and it will)
then you think i wished i hadn't spent the money. But when every things bang on its :flaming: .

Thanks shilo, i'll probably ride it as it is for this year, its plenty fast enough for keeping with my friends scoots, & beating most
,but now i've tasted the extra power i want more
, i suppose most people get like that
.
Next year, bigger carb & maybe reed valve. If it goes wrong this year the reeds might come earlier
.
Thanks for your input.

No probs Gee you now have the tuning bug

I'm going to fit a 28mm spaco carb with a 130 jet.
Does anyone have an opinion on whether to run this with or without a filter?

I run a 30mm delli with a 135 with no air filter with no problems have tried a 138 which works as well. Just take it down the motorway a full throttle for a while and plug chop. 130 sounds good but try a 135 and work back.
Thanks again, i'll give it a try
I have changed the carb to 28mm with 135 jet running through a malossi manifold but the performance isn't as good or as smooth as when running through a standard p2 carb with 132 jet.
might the timing need adjusting as the mix now has further to travel down a manifold to reach the inlet port, or is there something else i need to adjust on the carb.
Needle is currently on the 2nd notch up from the bottom, I don't know how to determine needle size & haven't checked the size of the pilot jet.
All help appreciated, thanks
