I've been waiting on CamLam to get new delivery of Varitronic Ultimate -- was already wondering whether I could justify £345 for this, but just looking on their web-site they now have 3 in and they're up to £395!

What are the other alternatives?

did you want to run ac lighting or dc lighting? do you have spots ,want a cigarette lighter for phone charger/satnav. that decides your stator
the chisel speed unit seems to be good as it has numerous settings on it for you advance/retard

i run varitronic on 1 scoot, and lightened indian flywheel, with bgm stator, and augusto unit. Never had a problem with either, but prefer heavier flywheel for rally use,as varitronic flywheeled scoot loses power on hills easier.

I'm fitting an Imola so with battery tray coming off I was going AC, however I've just ordered a Diablo fuel tank with space for a battery so can go DC - if I understand correctly.

If I needed a new system I think it would be Rich T's new ignition-funds permitting ;)

here we go again..
I run the extra wire plus wassel regulator, full DC with NO battery and have the Agusto 8000 on my Imola
Runs great better spread of power, starts with a tickle on the kickstart
The multi adjustable one may have given more tinkering options but mine set up with no problems after I went down a bit on the pilot on the carb
All for 100 quid

More dumbass questions from me then..

I will most likely add a battery in any case -- what's the advantages/disadvantages of the full DC Wassell etc. system versus installing say a BGM 120W stator and an AC/DC BGM voltage regulator. This system can supposedly run satnavs etc without battery, but has a DC out for charging a battery if installed.

Lot to learn.....

you have excellent dc lights with no dimming when you brake and a decent horn that sounds like a horn, i have twin tone air horns that are 120 db on mine
