runnin a imola 186,,with italian gp200 18 x 47,,was thinking of changing to 17 x 47 any advantages or disadvanteges..cheers steve

The standard GP200 pulls the 18/47 gearing well, and only makes 11.7bhp at the crank. I would hope that your Imola produces at least 11.7bhp at the back wheel, so it should pull the 18/47 gearing without a problem. Of course, I have over simplified this, as the torque has some bearing on the way it pulls the gears, but as long as your scooter continues to accelerate in 4th with 18/47, then it is not over-geared.

By all means try the 17/47 and see if you prefer the improved acceleration, though do try a bit of motorway work as well in case you find it is revving its nuts off at 60mph.

Also depends on your exhaust. With a revvy exhaust like a scootrs it'll prefer the 17/47. Imola doesn't like tall gearing, well mine didn't.

mine neither, only really just coped with 5.2 final ratio, and ended up at 5.4, which isn't far off 17 x 47 on a GP2 box anyway.
