Hi,

I have bought and fitted a Sterling Stainless 17litre tank and found the cut out is not big enough to fit my intended 34mm vhsb on my TS1,has anyone had any experience with these tanks and know if i could fit a mikuni with this tank?

Cheers

Is it this tank Pete? Is the cut out not deep enough in height or too shallow in the recess, or both?

Hi Corrado,

That is the tank, it is both, would be very tight when running the choke cable and certainly not deep enough, I know folks who are using this tank with 28/30mm dellys with no problem but cannot get a 34mm on, didn't know whether a mikuni would be smaaler and maybe fit

I'll try and take some pics over the weekend of a TMX 35 back to back with Vh 34 and phbh 30 and post them up. It might give you more idea if it'll fit.

Hi can you try also exentric cones for the engine main bolt

good luck

ps carefully when you tight the straps from the tank too hard the start to leak !!( the break )
I did weld one a few months ago and put some rubber between the top bolts he is ok now

Hi Fellas,

thanks for the furter advice and info, will wait and see corrado's photos as i think the eccentric cones will only help with the height problem and not the depth of the cut out, don't want to but may end up following another previous suggestion of swapping the tank

Cheers

Yep a Mikuni TMX 35 or 34 Amal will fit under the tank , or though i would replace the tank with a Diablo one due to the numerous threads on here about faulty far east tanks.
Has a mind full of useless s**t and isn't afraid to use it !

Hi,

thanks for the info on the TMX and Amal carbs, just considering my options now and would appreiciate some more advice.

my set up is

TS! 225 stage 2 tune

JL3 pipe

If i kept the 17 litre tank what carb would you recommend, i.e. would a TMX30 also fit or would I be better going for the 35?

If I swopped the tank for a Diablo this would give me more options on a carb,so would a TMX still be favourite?

I'm not a balls out racer just looking for a carb that will give me the best compramise on performance and economy

Cheers

Pete
