It had the same carb and the same ignition when it went on the dyno as it did when it did flew up the track.

I suppose a mobile Dyno at the Straightliners event would have solved a lot of the questions......maybe an option for future events.

I see where you are coming from but if it was an inertia dyno the SM will still on do a power run of 30hp as it was the same as when it was dyno'd at Dans however it would clear up anyones conspiracy theory that something had been drastically changed.

These SM scoots are bloody quick......totally different animals to the TS1's and RB's. I recommend people have a go on a demonstrator and see for themselves.

To give you an idea of it on standard gearing......on mine i'm just doing over 5000rpm in 4th and i'm cruising at just above 60mph and that is using a digital speedo not a wavy cable one!

EDIT: Just to add to avoid confusion....what i mean by standard gearing is the standard recomended gearing for the SM which is TV200 box with 15/46 sprockets giving a final drive of 4.4

my question directed to you and soulsurfer is how much did the set up cost? and then after all the shite that you both have thrown at me is will your scooters do 105mph?

I have not thrown anything at you or insulted you or anything else :?

I have never said that my scooter will do 105mph......i dont gear mine up and turn the power jet down to over rev like was done at the sprint meeting and i have a 30mm carb not a 34mm.

What i have said is that the kit that was used was the same barrel and porting as mine, the same exhaust, the same varitronic ( but i am yet to get programmable ignition), the same crank but the scooter in question had a 34mm carb and programmable ignition box extra and was probably playing with gearing and turned his jetting down to achieve over rev which you wouldn't do on the road. You may find that the gearing that was run would be too much on the road but this is sprinting and ALL competitors will be playing with gearing and jetting to achieve best speeds/times same as competitors do on a race track.

How many times do i have to repeat myself :?

You wouldnt go racing and run on road jetting........you adjust your jetting to the weather on the day leaner or richer if cooler or hotter etc and you adjust your gearing to the track.....long straights you may gear up for top speed......corners you may gear down for acceleration.

This isn't rocket science! What is interesting is how on different types of dynos the scoots were set up on, the results, heat etc are so different.

As for set up cost it is not for me to quote figures on someone elses work. If you look on Cam Lams site you have the cost for the parts. If you ring Charlie or Cam Lam they will tell you how much a build and set up would be depending on the components you choose.

I dont understand why everyone is getting so irate over this super monza speed?

Nobody bats an eyelid when people say theyre std ts1 kit with an expansion pipe and 34mm dellorto does 85 all day long!

Im glad these people are getting up to these amazing speeds as it shows that most lambretta riders have been living in a dream world for years claiming ridiculous speeds of theyre kitted scooters.

Just to counter some of the insinuations about dynos, that only a step-test brake dyno is any good and it isn't possible to develop anything on an inertia dyno, can I point out a few things:

1. The Super Monza cylinder and exhaust were all developed on an inertia dyno

2. Charlie's championship-winning group 4 Lambretta was developed on an inertia dyno

3. Tony O'Brien's Falc SS90 was originally developed on an inertia dyno (as were all the Falc kits)

If an inertia dyno was no good at all for development then clearly none of these things would have been possible. It is only in the last year or so that Charlie has got an eddy current brake dyno (like PM tuning and Readspeed already had, and we have had for years). It is an improved tool allowing the engine to be tested for longer periods under load, and allowing for more accurate heating, fuelling and checking of timing etc, but the engine is still under load on an inertia dyno. On our inertia dyno the scooter has to accelerate a large-diameter drum that weighs 600kg - that is not a walk in the park.

Inertia dynos are still perfectly good tools capable of all the development listed above if you know how use them and how to interpret the results. Charlie has proved that.

My only point is that people should not get caught up with the "step testing is the only way" hype.

You can dig a hole with a spade or with a mini-digger. It might take longer with a spade but you can still achieve a perfectly acceptable result.

Just because someone has bought a digger it doesn't mean that everyone else has to throw their spades away, or that customers should only accept holes dug by a JCB. You might get a better and cheaper result from someone who is an expert with a shovel than someone who is an idiot with a digger...

Just saying...
