the scooter is all back together as it was with just the wassell unit fitted, so probably a good idea to ride it about, that is the best test after all.
thanks for all your contributions

from tickover, revving it up a bit a few times until no increase in the readings. so not totally controlled, but i was doing this in my badly ventilated workshop with a bike that is running rich and ideally needs setting up, again by riding it...
I think i will see if the owner does want to blat it around a bit, at least til we get the rewound stator back...

I would try and measure the voltage at a constant 3000rpm approx, if the volts are alright at this range I don't think you have a problem.

Jarv, I agree with Soulsurfer, I don't think the size of the battery is the problem (if indeed there is a problem) my battery is a 7.2 Ah one. btw.

I have a bigger problem at the moment, we've jusrt drive 225 miles up to Wigan to do xmas with the inlaws and we've leftthere frikin present behind

Have a good one all ;)

 oh dear. have a good one Colin

just tried it, about 3000 rpm, but only by ear, had a drink lunchtime so can't be arsed with hooking a tacho up....

measured at battery :
14.5v with lights off
around 12.5 with lights on
just over 12 with one pathfinder
11.5 with two

so does that seem ok ?

i did meet the owner for a beer earlier, he is going to ride it about a bit next week, so hopefully it will all be good....

don't you just love lambrettas
