Simples: Try an AS266 atomizer and set your needle richer to start withm then lean out. Else get it dynoed.....

Saying all that the other 2 Avantis that I ride with seem a lot cleaner at the bottom end than mine did, all very similar set-ups so who knows ?

are your mates running more advanced timing than you? more advance would clean up a boggy arse.

No they're both running static at 17 degree, I'm using a M-Tech set at 25 retarding to 16. The only main difference is the exhausts, i'm on a Franspeed Race, one lads got my old Franspeed Tourer and the other an old style DJ. Final drives are all 4.8 and until my change to the Mikuni we were all using 30mm PHBH's.

The DJ seemed the best all rounder, hardly ever changing gear and getting the best MPG.

The rider of the DJ had a go on mine with the new Mikuni and is very impressed........I think the Mikuni's will out number the Dellortos soon !!

So the lads with super tourer pipes on their Avanti's ,what final drives are you running?

I'm was running a similar set up as yours, but with a 225 Monza and JL3. I set up the jetting myself and Dan dynoed it and it was fine with no adjustment.
My setup
Ky Tronik ignition thingy, static timing at 26 degrees and on curve 8
30 mil phbh.
x7 needle on top setting,
50 pilot,
Av266,
70 choke
50 slide,

Ran like a dream with no richness.

Just had the Monza barrel slightly tuned and fitted a Franspeed touring pipe and its really boggy from 1/4 to 1/2. But from O to 1/4 and after 1/2 runs great. So after advice from this forum and searching myself, it is too dangerous to go down to a AV264 atomizer. So after a bit of research, I've just ordered a leaner AS266 atomizer, as suggested above and see if that gets rid of my problem. he AS266 is a leaner atomizer than the AV, so I will see if I can lean out that boggy zone but will let you know. T
Plus as Nelson PK states, round slide carbs, like the PHBH, have vortex flow (all over the place) around the slide at low revs, which makes it difficult to set up on lower revs. However, the Mikuni has a flat side and doesn't have the same problems. I have both types of carb, (Mikuni on a TS1) and do feel that the Mikuni is easier to set up and has great throttle response. Down side is that the fixed atomizer wears and means that you have to play around with thicker needles.

Gonna rinse what I can from the Phbh and when I reach a point where I think there's nothing more I can do I'm gonna chop over to a 35 Tmx.

I see Adam in running 4.8 with a super tourer... I'm running 4.6 which seems ok on long runs and motorways but is abit much for every day use... What are other using?

I'm on 4.8 with a Super Tourer and 30 PHBH. Has anyone tried a 30 PWK on an Avanti ? I have a spare one an just about every jet and needle known to man so I'm tempted to try it. My main concern though is the small float bowl which can drain if the level isn't spot on. I just took delivery of a clear float bowl which I was thinking I could use to check the level is right.
